Wave Heist: COVID-19 Bodyboarding Outlaws

“Puerto Rico had the best waves and they went unridden”

On the last leg of the 2019-2020 season, we lost one of the best-looking swells to hit the island of Puerto Rico, a couple of weeks into the COVID-19 quarantine lockdown the last good to epic waves went unridden! The few that ventured were deemed outlaws, wave thieves at large,  threatened with hefty fines of $5,000 and possible jail time.

Bodyboarders and surfers alike were constantly weighing the odd of the Wave Heist.  Venting over lost waves is as common as bragging about surf! I guess we will keep on doing both till the next swell comes.  For many of us in the Caribbean, it is summertime and that means SMALL WAVES! They are still fun and will always have our undivided attention.

The following images were captured somewhere in Puerto Rico during the Wave Season of 2019-2020. Surfing and Bodyboarding in Puerto Rico define our island culture. It’s the ultimate activity you can do on the beach. We suggest you go do it ASAP… We wouldn’t want you to miss out.
